A thought about the US elections

Here is the map developed by Colin Woodard. It would be interesting to know how strong is the correlation between this map and the recent US Presidential elections? That is, taking the cultural background only and putting aside the standard reasoning - i.e. city/non-city, white/non-white, male/female etc classification.
