One of the latest issues of Lituanus vol 56:1(2010) (lituanus.org) has a good article by S.Bačkaitis and R.Slavickas called "Lithuania's Energy at a Difficult Crossroads: Anxiety and Hope". The authors present a good review of available energy sources and come to the conclusion that by 2020 the present model of huge nuclear power plants could become obsolete as it might be replaced by small nuclear reactors. So, in effect the authors caution against current drive to build a new large reactor in Lithuania.
One of the references is the article that discusses various kinds of small (American) reactors.
It is interesting to see this type of discussion - I had a post about these and other types of nuclear reactors some time ago as well.
Note on September 28:
While perusing the September 25th 2010 edition of The Economist on p. 33 I have noticed that Polish company PGE is looking for Nuclear Power Programme Director. The ad states that they plan to commission the first nuclear unit by 2022. The agreement between PGE and Westinghouse seems to confirm this. I still doubt that there will be a joint Baltic nuclear project, but I guess now one can say for sure that there will be no joint nuclear project with Poland...
